About Us

My3DSpaces is a collaboration between myself (Brian aka mscdex) and the Tech Worlds Traveler server. It originally began as the result of group brainstorming in 2006 about how neat it would be for any traveler to create their own space and customize it without having to know the nitty gritty details of VRML or creating geometry by hand via notepad or with a tool such as 3D Studio Max.

The first incarnation of this project started out as a fully working prototype of sorts that consisted of a "cookie cutter" style of building. Users could pick pre-built template space, upload any pictures/textures available in the space, change colors of certain objects, as well as a mechanism to generate text either geometrically or via a texture created dynamically in PHP. A later revision of this system allowed for some objects in the template space to be swapped with other pre-built choices/options which for further customization. This project was available since 2007, however work leading up to the latest revision already started in July of the same year.

So here we are now in 2008. The current implementation includes a Java-based interactive preview of the space currently being built/customized. Users can effortless add an array of many kinds of objects to their space, situate them, and even customize the object to some degree however they please. This new system breaks free of the restrictions of the previous incarnation and encourages users to explore their creative and imaginative side. The possibilities are truly endless!
